New UAE Traffic Rules and Penalties from March 2025
The UAE has introduced a set of new traffic regulations, set to take effect in March 2025. These changes include lowering the legal driving age and imposing stricter penalties for major violations like driving under the influence. The aim is to align with global advancements in transportation and enhance road safety.
Key Fines and Penalties:
Misusing License Plates: A minimum fine of AED 20,000 and/or imprisonment.
Driving Under the Influence:
- Alcohol: A fine ranging from AED 20,000 to AED 100,000 and/or imprisonment.
- Narcotics or Psychotropic Substances: A fine ranging from AED 30,000 to AED 200,000 and/or imprisonment.
Driving with a Suspended License: A minimum fine of AED 10,000 and/or imprisonment of up to three months.
Fleeing an Accident Scene: A fine ranging from AED 50,000 to AED 100,000 and/or imprisonment of up to one year.
Causing Death by Negligence: A minimum fine of AED 50,000 and/or imprisonment. For specific cases, such as driving in hazardous areas like flooded valleys, the penalty includes at least one year in prison and a fine of AED 100,000.
Jaywalking Causing an Accident: A fine ranging from AED 5,000 to AED 10,000 and/or imprisonment.
Full details of the new rules will be officially announced by March 29, 2025.
